About this role
Performs functions as a healthcare provider working under the delegated authority of the Perinatologist. Serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with diagnosis and treatment of obstetrical patients. Performs ultrasound examinations for both low and high-risk obstetrical patients.
Ultrasound examinations range from routine diagnostic fetal surveys to high-risk detailed obstetrical scans. Includes first trimester and nuchal translucency screening, fetal anatomic surveys, fetal echocardiograms, Doppler studies, biophysical profiles, and endovaginal scans. Experience includes guidance for amniocentesis, amniocentesis reduction, surgery, and other invasive procedures in the MFM department.
Sonographer must work independently with thorough knowledge of high-risk situations. Serves as preceptor for new staff and rotating sonography students. The unit follows AIUM guidelines and supports patient safety practices.
Provides age-appropriate care to patients and families while demonstrating Family Centered Care principles. Interacts supportively with patients, families, and co-workers. May require travel to outreach sites.
Requirements
- 2 years obstetrical/gynecology ultrasound experience
- Current ARDMS certification in OB-GYN
- Current ARDMS certification in Fetal Echocardiography
- Nuchal Translucency Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) per policy
- Proficiency in computer skills and reporting software
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine experience and knowledge of high-risk conditions (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound examinations for low and high-risk obstetrical patients
- Conduct routine diagnostic fetal surveys and high-risk detailed obstetrical scans
- Perform first trimester and nuchal translucency screening, fetal anatomic surveys, fetal echocardiograms, Doppler studies, biophysical profiles, and endovaginal scans
- Provide guidance for amniocentesis, amniocentesis reduction, surgery, and other invasive procedures
- Work independently with thorough knowledge of high-risk situations
- Serve as preceptor for new staff and rotating sonography students
- Support patient safety and Family Centered Care principles
