The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team using the nursing process framework. The RN conducts initial and ongoing assessments, creates care plans, implements treatments, and evaluates effectiveness. Administers medications safely per state and organizational policies. Serves as point of contact for care coordination across hospital departments and for family members.
Acts as patient safety advocate, participating in quality improvement and collaborating with spiritual care, palliative, and ethics teams. Functions independently as scrub nurse and circulator. Participates in on-call system for emergencies, responding to STEMI callbacks in less than 30 minutes.
Using the AACN Synergy Model, supports physiologic, psychologic, and psychosocial stability across the lifespan. Synthesizes information for evidence-based action and adapts to rapidly changing conditions. Practices per the Nursing Professional Practice Model core concepts.
Requirements
- Current RN license in state they are working or covered by compact (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain prior to direct patient care)
- ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required within 6 months of hire)
- CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse (preferred)
- PCCN Progressive Care Certified Nurse (preferred)
- Ability to function independently as scrub nurse and circulator in cath lab
- Ability to respond to STEMI callbacks in less than 30 minutes
- Clinical judgement to anticipate and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions
Responsibilities
- Conducts and analyzes initial and ongoing patient assessment, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness
- Administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and organization policies and procedures
- Serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments
- Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department
- Serves as a point person for care coordination for family members or caregivers
- Functions independently in the role of scrub nurse and circulator
- Participates in the on-call system for emergency and urgent procedures, responding to STEMI call backs in less than 30 minutes
- Synthesizes and prioritizes information to take immediate evidence-based, patient-focused action
