About this role
Under the direction of a qualified physician, performs a variety of technical procedures in the application of non-ionizing high frequency ultrasound waves to humans for diagnostic purposes. Performs all technical procedures required for the ultrasonic assessment of OB/GYN patients. Performs routine and specialized ultrasound studies related to Obstetrics and Gynecology. Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures prior to performing studies. Obtains complete patient history and documents in patient’s computer file, recognizing significance of all structures visualized.
Differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes, recognizes equipment limitations, and interprets pathology present. Discusses findings with PNC physician and notifies of any abnormality or clinical significance. Assists in sterile technique procedures such as amniocentesis, cyst aspirations, PUBS, and Chorionic Villi sampling.
Takes night and weekend call for one week intervals as scheduled, including assigned holidays. Contributes to keeping the laboratory orderly and clean for a safe work environment. Assists in instruction of student interns, residents, fellows, and provides in-services to medical students.
Requirements
- Ability to recognize diagnostic versus incomplete scans and interpret OB/GYN pathology
- Proficiency in differentiating ultrasound artifacts from normal or pathological processes
- Knowledge of ultrasound equipment limitations and operation
- Skill in sterile technique for OB/GYN procedures like amniocentesis and CVS
- Experience correlating ultrasound findings with diagnostic lab test results
- Competence in digital imaging, video, and thermal printing for ultrasound records
Responsibilities
