About this role

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer III utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in diagnosing conditions and diseases. This role produces dynamic and static visual images of internal structures and analyzes hemodynamics of vasculature. Findings are communicated to the interpreting radiologist.

Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations using cognitive skills to identify and document findings. Adapts exams based on anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information while exercising independent judgment to differentiate normal from pathologic findings. Coordinates efficient exam sequences to minimize patient hospital stay.

Assumes responsibility for patient safety, mental and physical comfort by introducing self, verifying identity with two identifiers, and explaining procedures. Operates imaging equipment safely, maintains cleanliness of rotational areas, and follows high level disinfection protocols. Interacts with physicians, technical staff, students, and residents to ensure quality care.

Supports 24/7 coverage through on-call services and assigned shifts. Assists supervisor with divisional paperwork and completes mandatory educational assignments. Performs professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program meeting ARDMS requirements
  • Credentialed RDMS and RVT in AB, OB/GYN, and VT specialty exams
  • Specialty in RDMS Breast (BR) Certification for Breast Imaging (Procedures; ABUS)
  • Specialty in RDMS Pediatric (PS) Certification for Neurosonology (NE) and pediatric exams including spinal canal and dynamic hips
  • Ability to perform independent judgment during sonographic exams to differentiate normal and pathologic findings
  • Experience producing dynamic and static images and analyzing vascular hemodynamics
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, quality control, and safety protocols
  • Competency in cognitive sonographic skills for clinical assessments

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit including on-call services for 24/7 coverage
  • Perform clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations using cognitive skills to identify and adapt exams
  • Assume responsibility for patient safety, comfort, and proper identification while explaining procedures
  • Select and operate imaging equipment efficiently, coordinate exams to minimize patient stay, and report malfunctions
  • Interact with physicians and technical staff to provide quality, safe, and efficient patient care
  • Maintain cleanliness, supply levels, and follow high level disinfection protocols in rotational areas
  • Provide instruction to sonography students, medical students, and residents on exams and equipment
  • Assist supervisor with divisional paperwork and complete mandatory educational assignments
